Thursday's Three Things: Fridge Staples
Don't miss out on the fun we're having over on our new blog: Rainstorms & Love Notes!
It’s time for Thursday’s Three Things!
Today’s topic is:
What 3 things do you always keep in your fridge?
A few days ago, it was around 6pm, and there I was wandering around the kitchen, chastising myself for putting off a trip to the grocery. You see, dinnertime is not nearly as exciting when you have nothing to eat! When I was looking around in the fridge for something that could pass as a meal, I realized that even when the kitchen is nearly bare, I’m never without 3 items: chicken, cheese and tortillas. Thrown together, you can make a basic, yet delicious, quesadilla. And I bet you can even fool your family into thinking you planned it that way :)
1. Chicken – This barely needs an explanation. Whether it’s shredded chicken, a rotisserie chicken or just plain chicken breasts, we always keep some in our house. Adding chicken to a meal instantly gives it more sustenance and “fancies” it up, if you will. Lettuce becomes a chicken salad, and the “blue box” becomes baked chicken macaroni and cheese - you get the idea.
2. Cheese – Again, this really doesn’t need much of an explanation. We generally keep at least two different types of cheese in the fridge at all times, because, well it’s delicious.
3. Tortillas – I guess this item is a little less common, but in our house, we almost always prefer whole wheat tortillas to bread. We use them for all the usual meals – burritos, fajitas, and quesadillas, but we also love using them to make wraps, baking them to make our own “chips”, and grilling them with hamburger meat inside as a spin on burgers.
Now it’s your turn – leave 3 things you always keep in your fridge in the comments below!
